The A1R Design Bureau has released the Chilton DW-1A, a vintage British sporting airplane from the 1930s, for Microsoft Flight Simulator. This single-seat, low-wing monoplane features a wooden structure and is equipped with a Walter Mikron-III 65 HP engine.
The Chilton DW-1A was designed to be cheap to build and operate while still providing exceptional performance on low power. The fuselage is a rectangular wooden structure with curved decking covered with plywood. The wings are cantilever in three sections, with a rectangular centre section and two tapered outer sections, covered with plywood back to the rear spar and fabric covering thereafter. The landing gear is the divided type, with each medium-pressure wheel sprung with twin-coil spring shock absorber, telescopic legs, and enclosed in a fairing.
The A1R Design Bureau has implemented a new Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) flight model and propeller simulation system, as well as PBR high-definition materials and a Wwise sound system. The aircraft is available for purchase on SimMarket for EUR 15.40 or Just Flight for $21.49.
While the Chilton DW-1 never achieved the same level of popularity as some of its contemporaries, with only a handful of units built, it remains an interesting and unique aircraft for aviation enthusiasts. A1R Design Bureau’s previous release for MSFS, the Ryan ST-A Special, was well-received, and the Chilton DW-1A looks to be another great addition to the vintage aircraft lineup.
